Ida Westh-Hansen, DK, is a sculptor and action artist based in Vienna. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and spent a year at the Athens School of Art, during which she was a member of the official choir of Dokumenta14. Her work has been shown at the Museum für Druckkunst Leipzig/DE, Esche Museum/DE, PAKHUSgalleriet/DK, and Stiege Hills in South Tyrol, among others. She is a founding member of Kollage, a curatorial group organizing exhibitions and residencies in Denmark. Working at the intersection of sculpture and action, Westh-Hansen explores the interplay between material, myth, and contemporary experience. Amongst her upcoming projects are a residency in Manang, Nepal and a solo exhibition at Bladr, Copenhagen, Denmark.

In my work, my primary focus lies in the realms of sculpture and action. My artistic practice involves an exploration of the interplay between form and material. Working with composition, I engage with a diverse array of materials, ranging from papier-mâché, beeswax and found objects to ceramics and textiles. I create sculptures and actions that move between the material and the mythical. My practice is rooted in the idea of talisman, objects that protect and simultaneously transform fear. They embody both fragility and resilience, serving as companions in navigating the uncertainties of the human experience. Through play and experiment, I keep exploring different materials and techniques, both classical and unconventional. In doing so, I create spaces where ancient mythologies converse with contemporary realities. My works function as conduits for the exploration of themes such as mythology, play, and the sensory qualities of our surroundings. Grounded in the symbiotic relationship between form and material, each piece transcends mere physicality, offering an evocative journey into the recesses of the human psyche.
